Place - Bhimkund

District- Keonjhar

Things to watch- Waterfall, Shiv temple, the statue of Lord Bhima, watchtower.

People from all over Odisha come here to enjoy its serene beauty. It is on the border of 2 districts of Odisha- Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar so this waterfall can be accessed from both sides.

In this post, I have shown the view of the place if one goes from the Keonjhar side.

It's a great picnic spot and a wonderful spot for photography as well. This place has a stunning spectacular natural environment encircled with lush green forest. The majestic Baitarani river provides the most beautiful waterfall to nature lovers. This place is considered among the most sacred places from the religious point of view. According to Hindu mythology- Pandavas came there and stayed there for some time and Lord Bhima created this waterfall by beating the rocks with his 'Gadaa' so that Maa Draupadi can bathe there. hence its called Bhimkund (Kund made by Lord Bhima). There is a beautiful watchtower adjacent to the picnic spot where one can enjoy the beauty of the waterfall and get beautiful clicks of nature as well. Besides the watchtower, there is a shiv temple and a statue of Lord Bhima holding the Gadda and pointing his finger towards the other side of the waterfall.

I traveled there with my family by renting a car. It took us almost 4-5 hours to reach there. It was Sunday so the gate of the watchtower was closed but there were some stones placed on both sides of the gate which tourists used to jump to the other side of the gate as the height of the gate was not too much. The serene beauty of the stream from that watchtower was completely astonishing. The sound of the rippling, burbling waterfall makes you pause there and just get lost in its beauty. After some time we came back to the place where we were supposed to do the picnic. There were water facilities for cooking and washing dishes and some small shops nearby as well. There were government washrooms available also but was closed as it was a Sunday. If you are planning to go there make sure you don't go on weekends to get to use all the facilities available. You can also visit nearby places like Gundichaghai waterfall and Maa Tarini temple if you get time. One can experience the ethereal beauty of nature there.
